The Real Deal?
I recently finished this copy of Van Gogh’s “Wheatfield with Crows” . It is one of his more moving images, as it was painted shortly before he committed suicide. The crows are often interpreted as a symbol of his pending death.
It was an interesting exercise to copy the painting. I certainly learned a lot about how the original must have been painted. I did the copy over a few weeks, but I think that the original has the look of being done much more quickly, and I can imagine that Van Gogh had mastered the wet on wet oil technique.
So it isn’t a fake, it’s a genuine act of respect for a great work of art by a great artist.
